Rape has become endemic in South Africa, so a medical technician named Sonette Ehlers developed a product that immediately gathered national attention there. Ehlers had never forgotten a rape victim telling her forlornly, “If only I had teeth down there.”Some time afterward, a man came into the hospital where Ehlers works in excruciating pain because his penis was stuck in his pants zipper. Ehlers merged those images and came up with a product she called Rapex. It resembles a tube, with barbs inside. The woman inserts it like a tampon, with an applicator, and any man who tries to rape the woman impales himself on the barbs and must go to an emergency room to have the Rapex removed. When critics complained that it was a medieval punishment, Ehlers replied tersely, “A medieval device for a medieval deed.” - Half the Sky, Nicholas Kristof

Everyone, get the fuck on facebook, and report the group "People against girls who cry and complain after getting raped" who's membership has a gender ratio of 5:1 women to men.

Reported. Done. I put it under “hate speech” as “targets gender or orientation” because I didn’t know what else to put it as.

Was I the only one made uncomfortable by that line and the context in which it was said in the show?

I don’t want to live in a world where the phrases “you were raped,” and “shit happens,” are uttered in the same sentence.
I don’t want to live in a world where a man or woman says, “I’m a feminist. I’m all for women’s rights,” and then immediately follows that with a contradicting, anti-feminist, anti-women’s-rights statement.
I don’t want to live in a world where the pro-life “logical response” to someone who was impregnated by their rapist is, “take responsibility for YOUR actions,” as if, by their actions, they got raped and pregnant by their rapist.
I don’t want to live in a world where pro-life advocates can express their opinions and it is “beautiful,” but a pro-choice advocate, expressing outrage when constantly being told what to do with their body is met with, ”calm down, go eat a cupcake, it’ll make everything a lot better.”
Just saying.

"Rick Santorum, the most religiously conservative candidate in the GOP field and the current front-runner. explained his religious opposition to abortion even in the case of rape or incest, because “in the sense of rape” this is a “gift” of God, albeit “a gift in a very broken way.” Thus, women and girls who are raped and become pregnant should “accept what God has given to you.”

No. God didn’t do this to women and girls, nor authorize someone raping them, and a pregnancy that results from that violence isn’t a gift. Rape or incest is violence and therefore sin, and God is not the author of sin against women. Nor do women have to passively accept violence done against them as “God’s will.” Conservative Christian theology is obviously playing an increasingly large role in the GOP war on women and it is important that this theology be challenged at every turn."

180? More like 360!

If you haven’t watched the documentary “180,” this might not make sense to you. Please, watch it.

After watching the documentary “180,” I have some questions for the creator, Ray Comfort.

*Ahem*

1.       Do you have a uterus?

2.       Have you ever been the victim of a violent, physical crime (rape, incest, pedophilia, etc.) that resulted in an unwanted, unplanned pregnancy?

3.       Do you have any female relatives or friends who have been the victim of a violent, physical crime (rape, incest, pedophilia, etc.) that resulted in an unwanted pregnancy?

4.       Has a man ever gotten you pregnant and left you?

5.       Have you ever been called a whore for having sex outside of a heterosexual marriage?

6.       Do you believe in comprehensive sex education, or only anti-abortion education?

7.       Do you believe in birth control?

8.       If a woman does everything she can to prevent pregnancy, but gets pregnant because her birth control failed, is that her fault, the man’s fault, or God’s fault? And who should live with the consequences of it?

9.       Do you believe in the freedom of choice?

10.   Do you believe all women who have had abortions or women who support the right for women to have abortions are re-incarnations of Hitler, only with vaginas instead of dicks?

11.   Are you God?

12.   Why did “God” give us the ability to think for ourselves?

13.   Do you know what a miscarriage is?

14.   Do you think women who miscarry are Nazi-like murderers? Let me remind you, a miscarriage, according to the medical field, is called a “spontaneous abortion.” If abortion is murder, a miscarriage would therefore be involuntary manslaughter. Do you feel the women who have miscarriages should be sent to jail, or do you think a miscarriage is murder-via-God?

15.   If the sixth commandment is “thou shalt not kill,” why did God send “his only begotten son, Jesus” down to us to die on the cross for our sins? Isn’t that premeditated murder of his child?

16.   Do you know who the Jesuits were?

17.   Do you know what occurred during the Crusades?

18.   Finish the sentence: it is okay to impinge on someone’s freedom when _____?

19.   Do you know what Tae Sachs disease is?

20.   How many innocent people have died as a result of religious wars?

21.   Can you tell me what the first amendment of the constitution is?

22.   Finish the sentence: 40% of insurance companies cover prescriptions for Viagra, but only ____% of insurance companies cover birth control.

23.   Your wife was raped and is now carrying her rapists’ child. Do you give her permission to have an abortion if she wants one? Do you raise the child of your wife’s rapist?

24.   Do you believe women should be allowed to own property?

25.   Do you think a woman’s body is property?

26.   Do you think a woman’s body is her own property?

27.   A high percentage of eggs that are fertilized never become babies.  A woman may menstruate, and those eggs that are fertilized never attach to the uterine wall, never form from an egg to a fetus to a living, breathing child. Does that mean a menstruating woman is also a murderer?

28.   If a fertilized egg is all it takes for life to have begun, we need to discuss your sperm. How often do you masturbate? Do you have nocturnal emissions? Have you ever ejaculated outside of a woman’s vagina? Have you ever ejaculated inside a woman with no intention of getting her pregnant? See, I need to know, because your sperm fertilize eggs, and those are future, potential babies you are murdering by jerking off into a napkin or allowing your wife to give you a blow job.

29.   It is Sunday. You have just come home from work and I noticed you got a haircut on your way home. Before you came in, you checked your garden to see how the tomatoes and carrots you planted next to each other are growing. You are wearing denim jeans and a cotton t-shirt and leather shoes, and are now watching football. You have sinned, several times, and now must repent. When shall we commence your stoning?

30.   If you had a daughter and she was raped, would you accept a goat and silver from her rapist as payment? Would you allow her rapist to propose marriage? Would you force your daughter to marry her rapist? The Bible says you must, therefore, will you?

31.   Is the Bible open to interpretation?

32.   Have you ever adopted a child?

33.   How much of government funding for Planned Parenthood goes to abortions?

34.   What is the difference between Hitler and the Crusaders?

35.   Would you ever murder in self-defense or in defense of someone you love, knowing that murder is against the sixth commandment?

36.   How much government funding goes to wars?

37.   How often do you go after the fathers who leave the women they’ve impregnated?

38.   Have you ever had a vasectomy?  I need to know if you’ve permanently killed off your sperm, and thus, your sperms ability to create a fetus.

39.   Have you ever been forced to have an unsafe medical procedure because your doctor refused to safely perform the procedure on you?

40.   Has your doctor ever denied you treatment because of his and/or her religious beliefs?

“Raped too much?” SERIOUSLY?!

I am really tired of seeing the GOP all-male panel discussing women’s health and reproductive rights. I’m tired of seeing NO WOMEN on the panel. I’m tired of hearing the argument of, “They’re not discussing birth-control; they’re discussing a religious institutions freedom to DENY birth control if it conflicts with their religious beliefs.”

WHERE in the constitution does it say that’s okay? Show me where in the Bible that it flat out says, plainly and clearly, that birth control is wrong.

Everything I look up is wishy-washy — birth control is only “okay” for married couples, but a lot of Catholics say birth control is wrong, period. It’s not “birth” control, it’s “conception” control. Married couples are only married to procreate, but then the Bible says sex is also for “pleasure” and married couples should enjoy each other, mind, body, and soul. Which is it, then?

Heterosexual married couples + sex = babies?
Heterosexual married couples+ sex = pleasure, the right to have no babies?
Heterosexual married couples – sex = no sex, no babies, no pleasure?

Let’s, for one moment, take the Bible out of the argument, and just look at the constitution, shall we?

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” What does that mean to you? To me, it means the government shall not force religion on anyone, and/or persecute them for their religious or non-religious beliefs. This was our protection. This was the reason why we broke away from England, because the Catholic Church was forcing their doctrines down our throats, and punishing us for having beliefs that weren’t of “the Catholic faith.”

Now, it’s 2012, and this same amendment of the constitution is no longer protecting us, but allowing for a shit-storm to rain down upon us. It is being used as an excuse to punish women and deny them their basic, HUMAN rights to own their own bodies— plain and simple!

What about all the women in the world who do not identify with any religion? What about the women in the world who do not have the same faith or believe in the same doctrine our “law-makers” believe in?

Where is the constitutional amendment for me that says, “And congress shall make no law that allows for religion to dictate personal choices?” Where is the amendment that says, “And congress shall make no laws that prohibit WOMEN from exercising their rights, nor shall congress make any law that prohibits a woman from owning her body outright?” Where is the amendment that says, “And congress shall make no laws that prohibit women from having access to any and all AFFORDABLE health-care they may require throughout their lifetime?”

Do we honestly live in a world where it is going to be okay for a doctor to not save a person’s life because their religion says whatever life-saving strategy they would use is wrong? Are we going to live in a world where it’s okay for a doctor to deny a woman health-care, even though their first oath is “Do no harm,” and their duty is to their PATIENT, not to their God or conscience? Are we living in a world where it’s going to be okay for a religious doctor to tell a woman, “Well, this pregnancy is your 5th one, and it is going to kill you and the baby, but you’ll have to have the baby anyway?” Are we seriously going to live in a world where it’s okay for a doctor to tell a woman she can’t have birth control, cannot control her own body, because “his God says so?” It’s going to be okay for religious doctor to tell a 10-year-old rape/incest victim that she HAS to carry around the reminder of her violated body inside of her because “that’s just the way God planned things for her?”

40% of Viagra prescriptions are covered. So, let’s help people MAKE babies, let’s help men be able to get it up, but let’s not help women prevent making babies with AFFORDABLE ACCESS TO BIRTH CONTROL, and allow them to enjoy the pleasures of sex without the fear of getting pregnant?

Let’s make laws that barely punish rapists, pedophiles, and perpetrators of incest, but perpetuate victim-blaming and shaming by not allowing women access to either birth control (which could prevent pregnancies from rape and incest) or abortions (which could end a rape/incest/pedophilia pregnancy).

Let’s make laws that protect religious houses and allow them to do whatever they want, but let’s not protect our women from a society that basically allows men to swing their dicks around, but forces a woman to sew her thighs shut.

Let’s allow for a man to do whatever he wants with his body without fear of shame or backlash (even get a vasectomy, which cuts out the baby-making process for him altogether), but persecute women for taking birth control to prevent pregnancy, and/or getting their tubes tied because they’re done having children and/or do not want to have children, period.

Let’s sexualize women in every, single facet of society, but slut-shame them when they dare to express themselves sexually outside of a heterosexual marriage.

Let’s just deny women their freedom altogether, because really, once you take my right to my OWN DAMN BODY away, what else are you going to take?
